A few things to add to your comment...

In the scene, ".BluRay." x264 releases dupe ".HDDVD." releases. That is to say, they appreciate that they are the same quality.

A "true rip" is in fact 30-40 GB, and is labelled "COMPLETE.BluRay" or similar. I think you're referring to a "full HD" release (1080p) rather than a 720p "HD ready"? 1080p releases are generally 8 ish gigs, as you suggest, but are not "true rips".

ok people who say that ripping a blueray disk is better then ripping a DVD are retarded since when you rip it is will downconvert it to what ever codec defaults you have set and I have yet to notice any difference in ripping DVD BR and HDDVD only real difference is the version of the film since a lot of the Blueray movies have extended scenes the compression of the video would be the same as a DVD less a few frames per second. and since most rips are not ripped at full rez you lose quality unless you are downloading a true rip which would be about 6 to 8 gigs a movie and you wouldn't really notice if your playing it on a pc or Xbox anyway unless you are running a high end HDMI video card on a high end plasma or DLP TV since 90% of LCD's have half assed contrast ratios so stuff looks fuzzy and colors bleed between pixels anyway

Yes it is. It's kinda common sense; Blu-Ray has more quality while dvd has less. =]
