Same people, different groups
Members of the Scene are sometimes in multiple groups. Different groups can be run by the same people. Why do they do this? One of the reasons is to differentiate in the content they release: a different group name for each scene or type of content. It’s rather weird to see a group use the same name over many categories, like aAF for example. Other reasons are when FTP sites don’t have both sections you want to do as group, different genres (e.g. classic films or music), sometimes same supply but different members and sometimes good old whorage.
This blog post tries to list groups that are essentially the same or that have been merged. It’s not supposed to be a secret in most cases, but it’s far from obvious for the casual eye. It’s more obvious to other groups or anyone who follows sections closely.
Sometimes there are long lines of connected groups that aren’t so obvious, with members changed between them slightly, like FLT/CLASS/ECHELON/KALISTO/ProjectX/Mode7/STARCUBE. It actually makes the scene look like its got a lot more active people than it really does.

The latter of each group has not released in a while but it’s the only examples I can think of on the top of my head, I know there’s others though. Maybe they’ll come to mind later.
CRiMSON and OMiCRON? I never figured out the difference between them but they’re evidently similar…
I know of some groups that stopped releasing to form new groups, some by suspicion. Like when GOODBYE.S01E01.READNFO-ASAP was pre’d last year shortly after EVOLVE popped up so I think it’s an offshoot with some members, and MOMENTUM used to pre Discovery Channel shows but then they stopped and KILLERS appeared. No proof on those though, just hunches.
The music scene has a lot of the same people in different groups, usually one for MP3 and one for FLAC. I believe C4 and PERFECT are the same.

Not necessarily, but there isn’t proof that they are both the same group. (especially since they both give permission or thank the other group in their nfos) VoMiT probably has more sources. They used to release a lot. Both groups are active in different categories, so sharing the source isn’t a problem.

KILLERS is without a doubt part of EVOLVE. Pre-EVOLVE’s demise they did minimal racing and only focused on networks like Discovery Channel. EVOLVE would do History Channel, Adult Swim, etc in addition to racing.
